How this website and our office handle personal information.
Last updated November 2026.
This website, patents.org, is operated by Teitelbaum & Burk Patent Agents, 834 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario (also known in the past as Teitelbaum & Bouevitch and Teitelbaum & MacLean). Questions about this policy can be sent to email hidden; JavaScript is required or by telephone at 613 302-2273.
This website has no account system, contact form, or newsletter sign-up, and we do not knowingly collect personal information through it. Like most websites, the servers that deliver it (our hosting provider) may automatically log technical information about each visit, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time of access. We use this only to operate and secure the site.
Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google servers and your IP address is visible to Google when a page loads. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies on this website.
If you contact us by email, telephone, or WeChat, we receive the information you choose to give us, such as your name, contact details, and a description of your invention or enquiry. We use it to respond to you and, if you become a client, to provide our services. We do not sell it or share it for marketing.
Details of an invention are sensitive. Please do not send confidential technical information until we have confirmed that we will act for you. Ordinary email is not a secure channel, and we can suggest a more secure method on request.
We share personal information only where needed to carry out your instructions (for example with patent offices, and with foreign patent agents or associates you ask us to instruct), with service providers who help us run our business (such as email and hosting providers), or where the law requires it.
Some of these recipients are outside Canada, so information may be stored or processed in other countries and be subject to their laws.
We keep client files as long as needed to provide our services and meet professional and legal obligations, and we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to stop using it where the law allows. Contact us using the details above. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
