Teitelbaum & Burk Patent Agents is a focused, technically grounded practice based in Ottawa. We draft and prosecute patents across Canadian, US, and international (PCT) systems, with a client base that spans independent inventors, startups, and established technology companies.
Neil Teitelbaum earned a B.Eng. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and has been a registered patent agent since 1994, more than 30 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patents, with considerable depth in software patent applications, an area that demands both technical fluency and precise claim language. Ashley Burk brings a combined background as lawyer, patent agent, and trademark agent, rounding out the firm's ability to handle patent and trademark matters together.
Clients pursuing Canadian, US, or international patent protection, including those eligible for IPON funding, work directly with the agent handling their file from drafting through prosecution.
Direct USPTO filing for Canadian residents
Many Canadian patent agents can draft a US application but cannot file or correspond directly with the USPTO. As a registered Canadian patent agent, Neil Teitelbaum can do both for Canadian-resident applicants, removing a layer of intermediary and keeping communication with the examiner direct. For applicants who are not Canadian residents, we draft and prosecute the application, with filing and formal correspondence handled through a US patent agent or attorney.
